With heating costs expected to surge this winter, House Democrats have introduced an emergency energy plan to help families cope. This package will ban utilities from shutting off heat to homes during the winter months, provide payment assistance through emergency funds and will offer incentives to help families make their homes more energy efficient.
This legislation will lessen the burden that many families, especially those on fixed incomes, will feel when the first heating bills come. In Dearborn and surrounding communities, many families are asking how they'll cope with high heating bills. This legislation will help a great number of households, now and in the long term. It's important that we develop a way to ensure that our homes are energy efficient, which is the best way to keep our heating costs down.
Myself and the House Democrats are taking action to help families already struggling to make ends meet.
