More Canadian trash means more trash trucks tearing up Wayne County roads, threatening motorists and our police and fire personnel, and jeopardizing our quality of life. Our citizens are paying a steep price because of imported garbage. It's time we slammed the brakes on Canadian and out-of-state trash trucks. For more information, you can visit www.trash-o-meter.com.

Education is a vital issue in Michigan and a good education turns today's students into successful workers and leaders of tomorrow. I am honored to be named to the House Education Committee, and look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure we give our children the best education possible.

I've been working with Governor Jennifer Granholm and my colleagues in the legislation to see to it that the Great Lakes are protected from companies that want to sell Great Lakes water for profit or send it to other states.

This legislative package will not only create much-needed standards for private water sales, but will also create tough penalties for those who violate our standards. The Great Lakes have defined both the cultural and geographic landscapes of Michigan. They are an essential part of Michigan business and tourism, and their 3,200 miles of shoreline are a magnificent source of beauty for this state.

The Great Lakes nourish us by providing one of the world's largest supplies of fresh water. Together, we can fight to protect the great nature resources, our water, our common legacy.

I'm State Representative Gino Polidori in the 15th district, with an update on state legislation in Lansing. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, toll-free, 1 866 689-GINO, or e-mail me at GinoPolidori@house.mi.gov.

With heating costs expected to surge this winter, House Democrats have introduced the emergency energy plan to help families cope. This package will ban utilities from shutting off heat to homes during winter months, provide payment assistence through emergency funds, and will offer incentives to help families make their homes more energy efficient.

This legislation will lessen the burden for families and seniors, especially those on fixed incomes. In Dearborn and the surrounding communities, many families are asking how they can cope with the high heating bills. This legislation will help a great number of households, now, and in the long-term. It's important that we develop a way to ensure our homes are energy efficient, which is the best way to keep our heating costs down. Myself and House Democrats are taking action to help families already struggling to make ends meet.
