DEARBORN – State Rep. Gino Polidori (D-Dearborn) today wished Muslims celebrating the most important feast of the Muslim calendar a joyous Eid Al-Atha.
"I wish my Muslim friends here in Dearborn and throughout the world a joyous Eid Al-Atha," Polidori said. "I also wish all the pilgrims who have journeyed to Mecca for this important celebration a safe return home."
Eid Al-Atha concludes the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The feast of Eid Al-Atha commemorates Ibraham's willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son.
Muslim communities in North America begin the celebration of Eid Al-Atha today. It lasts for three days.
More than 2 million pilgrims from nearly 180 countries have traveled to Mecca to celebrate Eid Al-Atha.
Metro Detroit, especially the Dearborn area, is generally acknowledged to have the highest concentration of Muslims in North America.
