DEARBORN – State Representatives Gino H. Polidori (D-Dearborn) and Morris Hood III (D-Dearborn, Detroit) announced today that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will award $759,540 in federal Transportation Enhancement funding for a streetscape project on Warren Avenue from Schaefer Road to Lonyo. The city of Dearborn will match the funding with $759,540 for the project, which includes colored, stamped concrete sidewalks; trees and tree grates; planting areas; new decorative street lamps; trash receptacles; and benches.
"The project will make this area in our community more beautiful and it will enhance the rich culture of our neighborhood," Polidori said. "Furthermore, and most importantly, this project will make our pedestrians feel safer walking in an area that has a lot of vehicular traffic."
In addition to beautifying the area, the project will provide widened sidewalks at street intersections that will encourage calm movement of vehicular traffic. The project also will make the area ADA-compliant. The entire corridor will be safe and user-friendly for bike riders, wheelchair users and adults with strollers.
"I am excited that MDOT and our city of Dearborn were able to find funding that will make one of our most heavily traveled areas more beautiful and safer for pedestrians and vehicles," Hood said. "Our citizens, neighbors and visitors will enjoy the richness of our community and the added safety in this area thanks to this project."
